This is how the 'master disk' works... Assuming a legally-obtained, licensed copy of the software is where you got the master disk, the master disk contains 'activation' which can be trasferred to any other SINGLE computer. This computer will always start RS Logix without further need of the disk. You can transfer this activation around to any ONE computer, but lose it from the one from which you took it. The floppy disk, now without the activation (assuming it was trasferred), can now be used to boot RS Logix on any other computer that has RS Logix installed AND is set up to start from the disk. See 'Activation Help' in the RS Logix startup directory. This is presumably for Control Engineers like me to use on one system at a time, but who utilize two in the course of a day. For example, I load the activation on my laptop, but do development work on my desktop. This is legal because I'm the only user and both computers are not being used at the same time. Long ago, I read the Rockwell Software license agreement (I was bored) and this is totally legal as described above. Please note: I did some work with Rockwell Automation and have several friends who are employed there. I found that the activation disk is not easily copied. In fact, no one I know has ever been able to do it successfully, even just as a challenge. Good protection job by Rockwell Software. So keep in mind that the activation disk is the ENTIRE program value. You can sometimes see RS Logix 500 on eBay going for $50, but there doesn't seem to be the activation disk available. Cute, huh?

I am trying to figure out a way to move or transfer my activation disk for RSLOGIX to either a CD, flashcard, or other durable media. Currently I share a single license with another for both Logix 5 and 500, and the constant trading of floppy and or moving to floppy is a pain. On road trips I will activate whatever version is needed to my HDD and post a note on the floppy that it is installed on my system. Upon return I will close out the job and move back to floppy. Needless to say floppies are not real durable. Any Ideas, UDF for a CD, or flash, smart media of some sort.
